Haute Garonne FRANCE

The Local Area:

The department of the Haute Garonne is part of the relatively undiscovered and tranquil south west of France, Our Local area, which lies in the south of the department, is known as the 'Grand Comminges, Coteaux de Gascogne'.

At the foot of the Pyrenean chain, this Gasconne territory spiritually proposes it's rich past and it's countryside of rare beauty. It is here at Aurignac where traces of human life dating back more than 30,000 years were discovered, and at Montmaurin, the most vast Gallo-Romain villa known to this day in France, was exhumed.

For Leisure time, this region is packed with fitted out lakes, a leisure park, and not forgetting that it is here that the gastronomy of the South West really makes sense with foie gras and confit de canard.

The small village of St Pé Delbosc is situated just 4.5 kilometres from the 13th century Bastide market town of Boulogne sur Gesse, which offers all day to day requirements - supermarkets, boulangeries, banks, friendly restaurants & bars, a cinema and a market every Wednesday. There is also a holiday village with animations in season, a lake with nautical centre, swimming pool with slide, tennis, basketball and volleyball court and mini-golf.

The surrounding countryside offers spectacular scenery, such as the Gorges de la Save where you can go rockclimbing or take just a leisurely walk or cycle ride and a picnic. A fifteen minute drive will take you to the Lac de la Gimone with it's sandy beach area for bathing, or for the more adventurous - sailing, windsurfing, and even microlighting.

Home of Armagnac and Fois Gras , good food and drink are taken very seriously. Delicious regional produce is readily available, from modest cafés to sophisticated gourmet restaurants. Many of the local farms and auberges offer home cooking and lunches where you will be treated to family recipes, like homemade paté and confit, and of course Magret de canard!

There is always something going on in one of the villages nearby all through the year - Gastronomie Fayres, Brocantes, Night-markets, flower festivals, music events and village fetes - we can happily tell you what is happening and what not to miss!
