Pic du Midi

 

Approximately 1 hours drive and a 15 minute cable car takes you up to the 2877m peak observatory . A popular attraction for the area with the finest viewpoint in the Pyrenees ,600 m²  of panoramic terraces to discover more than 300 kms of Pyrenees summits . Open all year with a restaurant and  museum to explore space
     
Gavarnie
The Cirque de Gavarnie, a UNESCO site, is the best known feature of the Pyrenees, Gavarnie the most visited village. Its fame is justified by the impressive natural amphitheatre walls which rise in a sweep of over 1300 metres from the green valley floor.  These walls consist of bands of cliffs broken by horizontal tiers of snow and ice which in the summer months give an excellent backdrop for climbers and walkers of all abilities, whilst in the winter months skiers as well as walkers can view some of the most dramatic scenery of the Pyrenean range including a number of summits in excess of 3000 metres. A full 12 days of  festival in July include a varied programme of concerts, theatre and dance, viewed by candlelight in the most dramatic natural amphitheatres.

     
Lourdes
A 1 hour drive takes you to the second most important site for the Catholic Religion, pilgrims from nations all over the world come to worship at the place where nearly a hundred and fifty years ago, The Virgin Mary came, in visions, to Bernadette, a young local girl
     
Toulouse
An hour to Blagnac airport, or into the town centre. Visit the old town to enjoy the French atmosphere with its many original churches and buildings, restaurants, theatres and  cinemas. Let yourself go for a fascinating journey to the heart of space at the Cité de l'Espace, or discover the largest aeronautic site in Europe and see the assembly lines of the revolutionary Airbus project.
     

Biarritz/St Jean de Luz

Biarritz is a 2 hour 30 min drive.  Visit the fashionable town, sit at one of the street bars and 'people watch', see the wind  surfers, sample some of the golden beaches that stretch both north and south of the town, or more of the many other attractions.
     
Col d'Aspin
A dramatic mountain pass takes you over the Col at a height of just under 1500m.  There are great views of the Pic du Midi du Bigorre from here. An hours drive away.
     
Bagneres de Luchon
Thermal spa town located in the Pyrénean mountains at 630 metres elevation, As a city and village, Luchon bears witness to a long and generous history. Throughout the year, whatever the season, the city offers unique landscapes to nature lovers. A wide range of activities await you - sports, hydrotherapy (Thermal baths), historical sites, cultural events, gastronomy : it is known as the "active mountain". The doorway to ski Stations of Superbagneres and Peyragudes. 45 mins.
     
St Bertrand de Comminges
Originally called Lugdunum, after the god of the moon, the fortified town of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges was founded between 350 and 250 B.C.. Since the 16th Century, many Gallo-Roman remains have been unearthed in the town and surroundings. Just a 35 minute drive away.

Haute Garonne has four ski stations, all approx 45 mins drive away. Skiing in the Pyrénées is some of the best value to be had in Europe

The mountains and foothills of the Pyrénées are ideal for hiking. A number of Grand Routes pass through the area. In winter a growing sport is snow-walking.
